WESTON, FL – A Sunrise woman has settled a claim for $25,000 against her neighbor after being savagely attacked by the neighbor’s dog. Weston attorneys, Roy Oppenheim and Ellen Pilelsky of the firm Oppenheim Pilelsky, P.A. represented Christine Brannen against her neighbor, Tamara Malamud and her pet German Shepard, Brandy.

Back on May 21, 2000 Brannen was innocently riding her bicycle in her neighborhood when Brandy came at her and viscously attacked her. Brannen received deep wounds to her hip and knee and subsequently required extensive physical therapy. Her emotional wounds went much deeper. After the mauling, Brannen began suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder and experienced terrible nightmares about being attacked again. She lost time at work as an air traffic controller and was afraid to go outside.

“Christine Brannen’s injuries went far beyond the deep gashes to her body,” said Ellen Pilelsky. “She suffers haunting memories of this attack everyday.”

Then, she learned that Brandy had attacked before, injuring another neighbor.

Oppenheim Pilelsky demanded payment from the dog owner’s insurance company, Allstate, and settled for $25,000 to compensate Brannen for both her physical and psychological anguish from this attack as well as compensation for her medical expenses and lost wages.
